Wat Phra Keo, Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand has long been one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. With jungle clad hills, beautiful palm fringed beaches, and warm blue waters, it really is the jewel of the east. Ideal for backpackers who want a little organisation to help them along, or independent travellers on a tight budget, this comprehensive tour covers nearly the whole country. In the north we have time in Bangkok, a jungle trek & rafting trip near Chiang Mai, and explore the Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai. In the south we visit Khao Sok National Park, and the beautiful islands of Ko Samui and Ko Tao.
Starting in Thailand’s energetic capital, Bangkok, we spend some time exploring the sights with a day long walking tour This normally includes some interesting temples, a flower market, Chinatown and Little India. Before heading north for our jungle adventure, we enjoy a home-stay in Kanchanaburi and visit the Bridge on the River Kwai and the historic temples of Ayutthaya.
Elephant trekking Chiang Mai, Thailand
We arrive on the sleeper train into Chiang Mai and after some time exploring the temples and markets of this interesting and charming city we head out into the Huay Nam Dang National Park on our 3 day trek. During the trek you will visit hill-tribes to learn a bit about their unique way of life, you’ll even sleep in a bamboo hut. Next it’s time to take an elephant ride through the jungle and enjoy the picturesque scenery and abundant wildlife. Finally we take to the river on bamboo rafts and make our way back towards Chiang Mai, stopping to visit local villages on the way.
After some more free time in Chiang Mai we head to Chiang Rai from where tours are available to the border villages of the Golden Triangle before we return to Chiang Mai and head back to Bangkok on the overnight sleeper train.
In Bangkok there will be time for more sightseeing including a visit to a genuine local floating market, 'Bang Nam Pung', always a highlight of any trip to Thailand. We then head south on the overnight train toward the islands of the south, stopping on the way to visit Khao Sok National Park, with its beautiful rainforest, waterfalls, and limestone cliffs.
Longtails on a Thai Beach, Thailand
The island of Ko Samui is our first taste of the Thailand’s beaches and acts as a good stopover on our way to Ko Tao. There are plenty of optional excursions to do or just relax on the beach and swim in the sea. Ko Tao is a wonderfully unspoilt island and will be your base for a few days. Take your time to explore the island or do some snorkelling or scuba-diving on the fantastic nearby coral reefs; you can even extend your time here if you let us know in advance.
Finally we head back to Bangkok on the overnight train where our tour ends (extra accommodation and departure airport transfers are available on request).
This tour is a combination of our North Thailand Explorer and South Thailand Explorer tours.
