Thailand has long been one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. With jungle clad hills, beautiful palm fringed beaches, and warm blue waters, it really is the jewel of the east. Ideal for backpackers who want a little organisation to help them along, or independent travellers on a tight budget, this comprehensive tour covers nearly the whole country. In the north we have time in Bangkok, River Kwai, Ayutthaya and a jungle trek & rafting trip near Chiang Mai. In the south we visit Khao Sok National Park, and the beautiful island of Ko Samui.
Starting in Thailand’s energetic capital, Bangkok, we spend some time exploring the sights with a day long walking tour This normally includes some interesting temples, a flower market, Chinatown and Little India. We then head north on the overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai to start our jungle adventure.
We arrive on the sleeper train into Chiang Mai and after some time exploring the temples and markets of this interesting and charming city we head out into the Huay Nam Dang National Park on our 3-day trek. During the trek you will visit hill-tribes to learn a bit about their unique way of life, you’ll even sleep in a bamboo hut. Next it’s time to take an elephant ride through the jungle and enjoy the picturesque scenery and abundant wildlife. Finally we take to the river on bamboo rafts and make our way back towards Chiang Mai, stopping to visit local villages on the way.
After some more free time in Chiang Mai to we head back to Bangkok on the overnight sleeper train.
In Bangkok there will be time for more sightseeing including a boat ride on Bangkok's old canals, where we'll stop at lively markets and watch the daily lives of local Thais. We then head south on the overnight train toward the islands of the south, stopping on the way to visit Khao Sok National Park, with its beautiful rainforest, waterfalls, and limestone cliffs.
The island of Ko Samui is our final destination and it offers a wonderful taste of Thailand’s many beaches. There are plenty of optional excursions to do or just relax on the beach. Take your time to explore the island or do some snorkelling or scuba-diving on the fantastic nearby coral reefs; you can even extend your time here if you let us know in advance.
Finally we head back to Bangkok on the overnight train where our tour ends.
