Classic Thailand

Tour description

This luxury holiday gives a comprehensive introduction to some of Thailand's most important, interesting and beautiful highlights. We have designed a balanced itinerary to visit temples & important historical sites, view beautiful scenery & countryside, learn about local life in the cities and remote border villages, and enjoy time relaxing on some of the country's best beaches. Throughout the tour you stay in high class stylish hotels and boutique resorts.

Buddha statues in Ayutthaya, ThailandYour tour starts in the busy and bustling city of Bangkok, with a visit to the beautiful Grand Palace complex, and an afternoon long-tail boat trip through the peaceful canals of Thonburi, in the west of the city. From Bangkok, we also head out to the World Heritage Site and former capital of Ayutthaya. The mainly brick-built temples here are spread out through parkland on a large island formed by the Chao Phraya & Lopburi Rivers, and formed the heart of one of the world's great cities. You'll also explore some of rural Thailand on a converted rice barge. Back in Bangkok you visit one of the country's colourful floating markets and some local temples and small villages.

Local girl in traditional dress, ThailandYour next destination on the tour is Chiang Rai and the famous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. You'll explore the town on cycle rickshaws, and the surrounding bamboo forest, woodlands, rice paddies and farmland using a mixture of travel by elephant, boat and ox cart. You'll visit a remote Akha hill tribe village and can see the old capaital of Chiang Saen on the banks of the Mekong.

Leaving Chiang Rai, you drive through lush green mountain scenery to Chiang Mai, visiting the royal palace and gardens at Doi Tung and some less visited tribal communities. In Chiang Mai you visit Doi Suthep the holiest temple in northern Thailand, situated on a hill with great views over Chiang Mai and the surrounding region and learn more about how important Buddhism is to Thai culture. You also learn more about Lanna culture at a local farmhouse and take a boat trip on the Mae Pang river.

Idyllic sandy beach, ThailandYour time exploring Northern Thailand complete, you then fly south to the beaches and rainforests of Phuket for a few days relaxing on the beach or exploring the interior. Phuket is Thailand's largest and most developed island, but we can still find quiet areas with beautiful beaches and some exquisite resorts. There are great snorkelling and scuba-diving boat trips available, and a wide range of water sports for those interested.

The tour finishes with a transfer back to Phuket airport for your onward flight.

We offer extensions to the tour to add more time in Phuket, visit one of the other islands or beach areas, or head into Cambodia to visit Ankhor Wat - please contact us for details.
