Laos Uncovered

12days

Tour description

Laos still remains almost untouched by tourism and gives you a real glimpse into the traditional Asia that has disappeared in parts of Thailand and Vietnam. On this tour you will explore this beautiful country in depth and visit regions generally not included on shorter itineraries.

Buddha statues in a temple in southern LaosOnce you’ve settled into your Luang Prabang hotel we experience Lao life as it once was with the continuation of alms for the monks, the traditional night market, the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfalls, Pak Ou Caves and visiting a local village, just to name a few.

Akha girl, LaosAfter spending 3 nights in Luang Prabang we move on to Xieng Khuang, where we’ll visit the famous Plain of Jars, which is an archaeological site of hundreds of large stone jars, as well as taking in the central market, hill tribe villages and the temples and stupas of Muang Khoun. Our tour then takes us south to the nation’s capital, Vientiane via the town of Vang Vieng where we have 2 nights and the option of taking part in activities such as Kayaking, tubing, caving and more. Vientiane is home to Wat Sisaket – which holds thousands of Buddha statues, Wat Prakeo – a formal royal temple, Patuxay Monument – Vientiane’s Arc de Triumphe as well as an option of going to the COPE exhibition centre – which draws attention to the ongoing problem of unexploded bombs, shells, grenades etc.

Buddha statues, Vientianne, LaosAfter a night in Vientiane we fly south to Pak Se to take a hike to the Bolaven Plateau. This area is known for waterfalls, vegetation and crop growing e.g. coffee, tea, bananas etc. This is a time to really experience the road less travelled and spend an evening in Pak Se.

Monks in procession, Luang Prabang, LaosAfter this special night we move on to the 4000 islands and more specifically Khong Island via the World Heritage Site of Wat Phou which pre-dates the world famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Enjoy a day trip around the most breathtaking area in Laos which includes a long tail boat, the largest waterfall in South East Asia, a visit to a local fishing village and the rare opportunity to spot the illusive Irrawaddy Dolphins.
