  • Bear Keeper Exprience - Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue - UK£0

Lend a paw at the largest Sun Bear sanctuary in the world while being a bear keeper for the day. This program is conducted at the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre 40 kms outside Phnom Penh. You will get to go behind the scenes to see what it takes to care for more than 100 rescued bears on a daily basis while working alongside their keepers to prepare special treats to keep the bears happy and healthy in their forested sanctuary. Best of all, by taking part in this unique experience you will know that you have contributed directly towards helping care for hundreds of bears and other animals rescued from the wildlife trade.
Please note: This is a shared group tour. Activities will include a tour of the bear sanctuary, helping the keepers prepare enrichment toys for the bears, helping the keepers hide food in the bear’s enclosures. Direct contact with the bears is not possible under any circumstances, as these are rescued wild animals and the centre wants them to lead as natural a life as possible
You will depart your hotel at approx. 0700 hrs and return at approx. 1730 hrs.

  • Bird Sanctuary & overnight homestay - UK£0

There is so much more to Cambodia than Angkor. Not far from the ancient temples, in the heart of Cambodia, lies the huge Tonle Sap Lake, one of the world’s most productive fresh water lakes and host to the largest colonies of water birds in South East Asia. Each year, millions of fish come to spawn in the seasonally flooded forests surrounding the lake, attracting a myriad of water birds as well as people, who have settled in villages along the shores and who live with the rhythm of the water.
It is in this fusion of water and forest, this dense and intertwined world of aquatic life, birds and people that you can immerse yourself.
You will depart the hotel around 9.30am arriving at the lake by 10.15am. You will continue by boat across the Tonle Sap Lake to Prek Toal or Peak Kanteil floating village.
On arrival in the floating village, you will enjoy lunch which is prepared by members of the local community who have been trained by the NGO Sala Bai. Following lunch you will be taken by the villagers on a special Community Based Village Tour by traditional Khmer paddle boat. This tour was developed by the villagers themselves, to showcase different aspects of community life. It is a unique perspective on a way of life that is unimaginable to many of us.
In the later afternoon relax at the homestay within the floating village, enjoy dinner at the local restaurant and watch the sunset over the lake.
On day 2 you will depart the floating village and visit the bird sanctuary under the guidance of a ranger. Here your guide’s knowledge of the birds and the plant life create a wonderful opportunity to see and understand this complex environment. Around 10.30am depart for Siem Reap, arriving at your hotel around 12.30pm.
Please note: This itinerary operates from September - March only. The homestay is basic with mattresses, mosquito net and a squat toilet. There is no fan or air conditioning.
