Thailand has become renowned the world over for the quality and style of its hotels. From large deluxe city centre hotels with every modern amenity to beautiful small beachfront boutique properties, the Thai characteristics of friendliness, great service and excellent food prevail. 

Choosing hotels

If you are travelling on one of our small-group tours, or you have booked one of our set tour itineraries to do privately, then we will generally let you know the hotels to be used on your tour a couple of weeks before departure. If you have specific requirements for hotels to be used for your holiday, then subject to availability we can always book them, but we will arrange and price the tour as a tailor-made itinerary.

Star ratings

The star ratings given on this website are the official ratings the hotels have received from the local tourism authorities. Within each town, city or area however, there can be a wide variation between the standard of hotels within each star rating. At the top end of each level, the star ratings compare vary favourably internationally, indeed Thailand can be proud to host some of the world's best hotels. Some smaller properties and guesthouses may not have a star rating, but may still provide a high quality and delightful experience.

Comfort ratings

We describe the overall level of accommodation used on each tour by using 'comfort ratings'. You can use these to help select particular itineraries based on your personal preferences and the style of holiday you are looking for. The nature of itinerary based tours like ours means that it is not always possible to maintain the same comfort level for every night of the trip - indeed part of the idea is to mix this up a little. These ratings therefore give a general overview of the accommodation level to be used and individual itineraries may include one or more nights at a higher or lower level.

 

Our basic rating is only used where the level of services available for a major portion of the tour is very limited. This might include the use of homestays, treehouses and camps, or fishing bivvies. This level of tour is suitable for anyone wishing to spend some time off the beaten path and therefore accept a lower level of comfort. The tours will often still include some several nights in around 2, 3 or 4-star level hotels.

Our standard rating is based on good quality, comfortable hotels around the 3 and 4-star level. Most will have swimming pools and more than one restaurant and bar. Our cultural adventure tours that feature jungle trekking around Chiang Mai will, by necessity, include some more basic accommodation. This level of tour is suitable for anyone interested in a good balance of comfort and value for money.

Tours with our luxury rating use mainly high quality 5-star hotels, deluxe guesthouses and resorts to provide you with all the luxury and comfort available. We may still use more basic overnight sleeper trains and more adventurous or remote sections may feature fairly simple accommodation, but the vast majority of the tour will be in 5-star hotels.
